(23/1/2009) Leander Summer Swim Camp - Lignano, Italy.

I would like to give a reminder to all swimmers who were invited to attend our annual summer camp. It is taking place in Lignano, Italy, the custom built site of the 2005 European Youth Olympics.

The accommodation will be at the Ge Tur village. The village was designed for visiting sports teams. Surrounded by a pine forest the village also boasts recreational pools, fitness suite, football pitches, volleyball courts and a beach. The beach is to be used sparingly people!

If you are intending to go you will already have all your information and remember, places are limited. So it would be a good idea to give Catherine Donnelly your forms and ensure your place is reserved.

(We always have some good craic as well.)

Get cracking!

(20/1/2009) Geneva Swim International, Switzerland

On Jan 15th 2009 Leander stars Conor "Wooze" Donnelly and Sycerika McMahon flew to Geneva, Switzerland as part of the Ulster Swim Squad. However, this was no ordinary trip. They were going to compete against some of the best young swimmers from England, Wales, France, Italy, and Switzerland. Both swimmers had exceptional Ulster Championships in December and to compete at such a high level again was going to be a tough task. But hey...these are Leander swimmers we're talking about, we are the toughest of the tough.

Conor competed in the 200m and 400m Freestyle and 400m I.M. A 200m Freestyle swim within a second of his PB was excellent, especially at this stage in the season. He then swam a lifetime best in the 400m Freestyle of 4:11.25. This swim, second fastest by an Ulster Junior by the way, was a fraction off the Ulster Junior Record of 4:10.99 set by Conor Leaney. I don't think that's going to last much longer!

Sycerika just did what she usually does...win! She swam in the 50m and 200m Freestyle, 200m Butterfly, 100m and 200m Breaststroke AND 200m and 400m I.M. She won 6 out of her 7 events and set meet records in 5 of those 6. Think we might let her away with not winning the 50 Free considering she was competing in the Open age Group against girls 12 years older than her!

Check the results page for all of their times and final placing. I have included their splits as well. Younger swimmers should have a gander at the 200 and 400's to see how you should pace a swim.

(20/1/2009) "The Rocket" explodes in Glasgow!!

A big congrats to Craig "The Rocket" Meek who swam in the Scottish Short Course Nationals at Tollcross Park Leisure Centre in Glasgow over the Weekend. Craig was competing for the University of Edinburgh and was an integral part of their success in these championships.

Coming off a strong Ulster Championships in December, where he won individual Bronze in the 50m Freestyle and silver as a part of the Men's 4x100m Freestyle relay, Craig just had to go and swim some more PB's! As always he stepped up for the relays but his 100m freestyle showed that he can also do it for himself. Going into the meet his PB stood at 52.82. Within a day it is now a full second faster.

Good job Rocket!

Here are his times, which will again qualify him easily for the Ulster Swim Squad.

50m Freestyle - 24.26
100m Freestyle - 51.83 (25.25 : 26.58)

4x50m Medley Relay - 23.21
4x50m Freestyle Relay - 23.32
