I would like to make a few points.

One. This is a training camp where swimmers go to get FITTER, not fit. There is no point turning up the day of the trip and saying, "This'll be fun, I haven't trained in weeks!" You have to buckle down and do some serious training from NOW until we go. I do mean from NOW…not next week.

Second. (This is mainly directed towards parents). Swimmers will need their NORMAL training gear. When we are heading away there is a tendency to buy new and expensive training equipment. There is zero need. We use the same stuff as we do at home. Toggs, costumes and towels dry between sessions and boards will just be constantly wet! There are land training sessions so athletic clothes and trainers will be used. Spares of each item are beneficial, i.e. spare goggles & hats. However, it is obviously your own choice what you decide to bring.

SWIM GEAR

Toggs / Costumes
Goggles
HATS!
Kick Board
Pull Buoy
Water Bottles

LAND TRAINING EQUIPMENT

T-Shirts
Shorts
Running Shoes

Nice and simple. Updates will be posted online as well as the notice board in C’reagh. If you think there is a need for anything else give me a shout and I will add it to either of the lists.

(1/3/2009) Lurgan vs LEANDER

Date: 28//2/9
Venue: Lurgan
Time: 6:00 p.m.

Leander lose to Lurgan by 64 points. Some good swims on both sides and positives have been gained. With no shows from certain swimmers it was going to be a difficult meet. The swimmers who did race did so with great heart and should be proud.

Results will be up when published.

(21/2/2009) Celtic Tri Nations - Info & Results

The annual Celtic Tri Nations competition is being held in Swansea, Wales this weekend and Leander have Sycerika McMahon competing as part of the Irish 2012 team. Conor Donnelly and Craig Meek our other squad members have decided to give the meet a pass as they wanted to concentrate on their training and could not miss the required school / university classes.

Sycerika spent her mid-term break away in Spain on a training camp with the 2012 team and despite everyone's best efforts she contracted the illness that consumed the entire team. She happened to be the last member to get sick but thankfully it was not as bad as others. City of Belfast swimmer Conor Leaney was sent to hospital and is consequently missing the Tri Nations. We wish him a speedy recovery.

Despite this illness Sycerika is competing this weekend and is swimming rather well. Nothing seems to keep her down!

Below are her results.

100 Free - 58.98 (1st)
200 Fly - 2:21.69 (1st)
100 Brst - 1:12.96 (1st)
800 Free - 9:14.12 (1st)
200 Free - 2:07.60 (1st)
200 Brst - 2:40.49 (1st)
100 Fly - (1st)
200 IM - (1st)
400 Free - 4:31.54 (1st)

Celtic Tri Nations – Info

The Celtic Tri Nations is a meet which see the best swimmers from Scotland, Wales and Ireland compete against each other in a points based scoring system. The higher you finish in a race the more points you score for your team. The team with the highest points total at the end of the meet wins. Ireland being reigning champions has sent a strong squad to the meet with teams from Ulster, Leinster and Munster in support of the 2012 team.

This year there are two age groups for the swimmers. There is 10-13 year old for girls, 10-14 for boys and the Open Age Group. Sycerika despite her rapid speed is still surprisingly young and is competing in the 10-13 year old Age Group.

Swimmers are encouraged to wear their club gear, it is good to be able to identify all Leander swimmers by wearing swim hats and t-shirts.

Remember you will need to bring an extra towel and t-shirt to use during galas so that you do not get cold between events.

As this is an away gala it is advisable for the children to bring something to eat and drink.

Supper will be provided for all after the gala. Family and friends are encouraged to attend and provide HELP and SUPPORT. We need at least 12 parents to help on the night.

Many thanks

(5/2/2009) Leander Formal - Important Update!!

I try to keep the website full of great club news but it is my unfortunate duty to tell everyone that the club Formal organised for Feb 7 in the Ramada hotel has been cancelled. There was a lot of interest in the formal but not everyone followed through on their interest and due to a lack of numbers it was simply not feasible.

The formal had been set up as a social event and a fundraising activity. However, because of the cancellation we have actually lost money as club funds have been used to pay the band and a cancellation fee for the hotel. This means along with the fact that we have all lost out on a great night the swimmers selected for the summer trip to Lignano, Italy have also had a set back. Some of the money raised was ear marked to reduce the cost of the trip but it is doubtful if this will be possible now.

It is understandable that not everyone could attend and that there were mitigating factors in some cases but the numbers were very disappointing. There will be other club events coming up over the next few months and I would like to encourage everyone to attend.
