(9/8/2009) Irish Open / Youth Championships - Results
Here they are...finally!!
I have finally managed to get all the results gathered from the very successful Irish Open / Youth Championships that took place at the N.A.C. in Dublin from 23rd - 26th July.
There are far too many times to post here so I have put them on the "Results" page as an Excel spreadsheet.
Although everyone had fantastic swims throughout the team there were a few stand-out efforts.
Big congratulations must be given to Conor Donnelly for his 2nd place in the 400m Freestyle. A massive second 200m saw Conor negative split the race and almost claw back the huge gap established by the fast starting Seamus Stacey.
Craig Meek produced what we all knew he was capable of in the 100m Freestyle and earned himself a well deserved bronze. Craig put himself in a great lane after the heats and showed his skill in getting out fast and letting his training do the work on the second 50.
Finally...the Men's 4x200m Freestyle relay produced a team effort that Leander hasn't managed for years. The team of David Madine, Craig Meek, Matthew Harkness and Conor Donnelly won Gold in a hugely exciting race. Their time of 7:52.76 also broke the Ulster Senior Record of 7:54.84 set by City of Belfast in July 2008. Thanks to Michael Donnelly we have a video record of this swim. Check it out:
Needless to say these victories weren't down to the individual. Without the training put in by the entire Leander Squad this may not have happened. So on behalf of swimmers I would like to say Thank You for all your help.
As this will be the final post for the season I would like to congratulate everyone on their efforts this season and to enjoy their well-deserved time off because... we are going higher and faster next season.
